Wat Nawamintararachutis – the NMR Buddhist Meditation Center (in short “Wat Nawamin”) was established in 2002, as a Theravada Buddhist temple, in honor of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej the Great, Rama IX of Thailand to celebrate the 60th anniversary of his coronation on June 9, 2006 and his 80th birthday on December 5, 2007.

Wat Nawamintararachutis serves as a place for people of all races, nationalities, and backgrounds to benefit from Buddhist meditation and practice according to the doctrines of the Lord Buddha. Buddhist holiday observances at Wat Nawamintararachutis include Magha Puja, Vishaka Puja, Asalha Puja & Buddhist Lent, Sart Thai, and Ok Pansa. Other important festivals are Songkran, Royal Kathina, and Loi Krathong.

สมเด็จพระนวมินทรศาสดา (สูง ๑๙๙ ซม.) ได้ถูกหล่อขึ้นโดยมูลนิธิ ๕ ธันวามหาราช เพื่อเป็นการเฉลิมพระเกียรติพระบาทสมเด็จพระเจ้าอยู่หัวภูมิพลอดุลยเดชมหาราช รัชกาลที่ ๙ ในวโรกาสที่พระองค์ทรงสิริราชสมบัติ ๖๐ พรรษา โดยมีนายทนง พิทยะ รัฐมนตรีว่าการกระทรวงการคลัง เป็นตัวแทนชาวไทยทั้งประเทศ และในวาระพิเศษนี้ สมเด็จพระบรมโอรสาธิราช สยามมกุฏราชกุมาร พร้อมด้วยพระเจ้าวรวงศ์เธอพระองค์เจ้าศรีรัศมิ์พระวรชายา ในสมเด็จพระบรมโอรสาธิราช และ พระเจ้าหลานเธอพระองค์เจ้าทีปังกรรัศมีโชติ เสด็จร่วมพิธีเททอง
ณ ท้องสนามหลวง เมื่อวันที่ ๕ มิถุนายน พุทธศักราช ๒๕๔๙ เวลา ๑๗.๐๐ น. สมเด็จพระนวมินทรศาสดา ได้ถูกนำมาประดิษฐาน ณ วัดนวมินทรราชูทิศ แห่งนครเคมบริดจ์-บอสตัน

Somdet Phra Nawamintarasasda (Height: 199 cm) was created by The Fifth of December Foundation and Mr. Tanong Pitaya, the Minister of Ministry of Finance, who represented the people of Thailand to honor His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej The Great, Rama IX of Thailand to celebrate the 60th anniversary of his coronation. On this special event, HRH Crown Prince Maha Vajiralongkorn along with HRH Princess Srirasmi, and HRH Prince Dipangkorn Rasmijoti attended the ceremony at Sanam Luang on June 5, 2006 at 5 p.m. The Buddha Image is situated at Wat Nawamintararachutis of Cambridge-Boston, Massachusetts, USA.
พระพุทธรูปนั้นนับเป็นองค์แทนของพระพุทธเจ้า ดังนั้น ประเพณีการสร้างพระพุทธรูปจึงถือเป็นการทำบุญที่ยิ่งใหญ่ ซึ่งไม่เพียงจะเป็นการทำนุบำรุงพระพุทธศาสนา ยังเป็นผลดีต่อความอยู่เย็นเป็นสุขของมวลประชาราษฎร์ การนำมาซึ่งความสุขในชั้นสรวงสวรรค์ และการนำพาสู่นิพพาน
The Lord Buddha is well represented by the Buddha image. Therefore, creation of Buddha images is a wonderful merit-making traditionally, which not only preserves Buddhism, but also results in human wealth, heavenly wealth, as well as nirvana.

ประวัติวัดนวมินทรราชูทิศ
ด้วยคณะพุทธศาสนิกชนชาวไทยที่อาศัยอยู่ในมลรัฐแมสซาชูเซตส์ ได้มีความสำนึกในพระมหากรุณาธิคุณของพระบาทสมเด็จพระเจ้าอยู่หัวภูมิพลอดุลยเดชมหาราช รัชกาลที่ ๙ และได้พิจารณาเห็นว่าพระบาทสมเด็จพระเจ้าอยู่หัวฯ ทรงเป็นองค์เอกอัครพุทธศาสนูปถัมภก และได้ทรงปฏิบัติพระราชกรณียกิจต่างๆ อันเป็นคุณูปการอันยิ่งใหญ่ไพศาลต่อประเทศชาติและพระพุทธศาสนา รวมทั้งทรงเป็นพระมหากษัตริย์พระองค์เดียวในโลกที่ประสูติ ณ ประเทศสหรัฐอเมริกา ในวันที่ ๕ ธันวาคม พุทธศักราช ๒๔๗๐ ณ โรงพยาบาลเมาท์ออเบิร์น เมืองเคมบริดจ์ มลรัฐแมสซาชูเซตส์ คณะพุทธศาสนิกชนชาวไทยที่อาศัยอยู่ในนครบอสตัน มลรัฐแมสซาชูเซตส์ และบริเวณใกล้เคียง จึงได้นัดหมายกันมาประชุมในวันที่ ๒๕ มิถุนายน ๒๕๔๕ ณ บ้านเลขที่ 775 Newton St. Chestnut Hill MA 02467 โดยได้อาราธนาพระเดชพระคุณหลวงพ่อ พระพรหมวชิรญาณ กรรมการมหาเถรสมาคม เจ้าอาวาส วัดยานนาวา กรุงเทพมหานคร และประธานกรรมการอำนวยการและเจ้าอาวาสวัดธัมมาราม นครชิคาโก เป็นประธานกรรมการดำเนินการ ซึ่งพระเดชพระคุณได้ตั้งชื่อวัดให้ว่า วัดนวมินทรราชูทิศ (NMR Meditation Center) เพื่อเป็นวัดเฉลิมพระเกียรติ เนื่องในวโรกาสที่พระองค์จะทรงครองราชย์สมบัติครบ ๖๐ พรรษา ในวันที่ ๙ มิถุนายน พุทธศักราช ๒๕๔๙ (ค.ศ. 2006) และจะทรงมีพระชนมายุครบ ๘๐ พรรษา ในวันที่ ๕ ธันวาคม พุทธศักราช ๒๕๕๐ (ค.ศ. 2007) วัดนวมินทรราชูทิศได้ถือกำเนิดและเริ่มก่อตั้งขึ้นอย่างเป็นทางการในวันที่ ๑ สิงหาคม พุทธศักราช ๒๕๔๕ โดยมีสถานที่ตั้งชั่วคราว ณ อพาร์ตเมนท์เลขที่ 1765 Commonwealth Ave Brighton MA 02135 ซึ่งต่อมาเมื่อวันที่ ๑ มิถุนายน พุทธศักราช ๒๕๔๖ ได้ย้ายสถานที่ไปอยู่ ณ บ้านเลขที่ 11 Wilmot St Watertown MA 02472 และเมื่อวันที่ ๒ กรกฎาคม ๒๕๔๙ จึงได้ย้ายไปอยู่ ณ สถานที่ตั้งถาวร เลขที่ 382 South Street East Raynham MA 02767 เพื่อจะได้ดำเนินการโครงการก่อสร้างวัดฯ ต่อไป
History
His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej The Great Rama IX of Thailand was born on December 5, 1927 at Mount Auburn Hospital in Cambridge, Massachusetts and is the only monarch to have been born in the United States. His Majesty is well recognized as the heart and soul of the Thai nation.
On June 25, 2002, a group of Thai resident who live in Boston, Massachusetts and surrounding areas in the United States, led by Phra Promwachirayan (Board of the Council of Thai Bhikkhus, Abbot of the Royal Temple Wat Yannawa, Abbot and President of Wat Dhammaram in Chicago, Illinois, President of Construction Project of Wat awamintararachutis) held an official meeting at 775 Newton St. Chestnut Hill MA 02467 with an interest in founding a Thevaravada Buddhist temple. The temple was named "Wat Nawamintararachutis (NMR Meditation Center)" and in honor of His Majesty King Rama IX of Thailand to celebrate the 60th anniversary of his coronation on June 9, 2006 and his 80th birthday on December 5, 2007.
Wat Nawamintararachutis was inaugurated on August 1, 2002 as a Theravada Buddhist temple of the Mahanikai sect at the apartment address: 1765 Commonwealth Ave, Brighton, MA 02135. On June 1, 2003, the temple moved to a house address: 11 Wilmot Street, Watertown, MA 02472. Finally, on July 2, 2006 the temple has officially moved to its permanent location at 382 South Street East, Raynham, MA 02767 where a proper temple complex can be built with facilities for monks, a meditation center, and a cultural center for Thai arts and learning.
